Now that the summer holidays have arrived, all the major magazines and newspapers have been awash with pictures of our favourite celebs rocking their beach bodies whilst enjoying luxurious holidays all over the world.

One destination that really stands out as THE celebrity holiday hotspot this season is the picturesque Greek island of Mykonos, which has welcomed stars such as Kelly Brook, Perrie Edwards, Lindsay Lohan, Kimberley Garner, Lucy Mecklenburgh, Paul McCartney and even Matthew McConaughey so far this year.  We’ve all been left swooning over the photos but this sudden influx of celebrities has left us wondering – what’s the deal with Mykonos?

Mykonos is a small Greek island (at just 85.5 square kilometres it’s around the same size as Ireland) which - alongside Tinos, Syros, Paros and Naxos - is located the Aegean Sea and lies between Greece and Turkey.

Being a Greek island, Mykonos benefits from almost year-round sunshine and in the summer months visitors can expect temperatures in the high 20s to low 30s, resulting in perfect sunbathing weather without it being uncomfortably hot.

Mykonos is loaded with scenery and things to do, but the crowds definitely flock to the island for its beaches, which are absolutely stunning and offer perfect conditions for swimming, sunbathing, water sports and even some of the island’s world famous beach parties.  There are over 30 beaches on the island, each boasting crystal clear waters with perfect, golden sands – a real life tropical paradise.

Platis Gialos is arguably one of the most picturesque beaches on the island and here you’ll find plenty of space and things to do for sun worshippers.  There are a variety of hotels and restaurants around the Platis Gialos area (including our personal favourite hotel - Branco - which is a little bit of luxury set  in an island paradise), plus transport into Mykonos Town is quick and easy.

Other beaches worth visiting include Elia Beach, Ornos Beach, Psarou Beach and – for something a little different – Paradise Beach).

The world famous Paradise Beach is known throughout the island (and further afield) as the party beach and is home to some of the island’s infamous beach parties which attract celebrity guests from all over the world.  Plush beach club Cavo Paradiso is THE destination for beach parties and this year welcomes world famous talent such as Diplo, Armin van Buuren, Steve Aoki and Benny Benassi (to name a few!).  Whether you’re looking for a daytime pool party or all-night danceathon, Paradise Beach is the place to be.

One of the best things about Mykonos is that its shops are pretty much always open! In the peak summer months, you can expect to find top brands such as Louis Vuitton open way past midnight, so there’s always time for a browse.

As well as designer and luxury brands, you’ll also find a range of unique clothing and jewellery brands which are open all hours and won’t break the bank!

If you’re a fan of Greek food, you won’t be disappointed when you visit Mykonos.  With literally thousands of restaurants to choose from, visitors can opt for high-end luxury (like world-renowned Hakkasan or Nobu Matsuhisa restaurants) or quick-and-easy street food such as gyros, humous and souvlaki.   That’s not all.  Visitors can choose from just about any cuisine on the island, so if you fancy sushi, Italian, Indian or just a plain old burger, you’ll find these within easy reach.

BRB…..We’re off to Mykonos!
