#1 Side Braid

Side Braid

Give this braided hairstyle a go if you want to braid your fringe out of your face. Let the fringe frame the face, with the simple braid being just an added bonus!

How to Style:

  • Brush hair out and straighten to create a nice, smooth finish
  • Part hair to one side
  • Tease the top of the crown for volume and smooth back
  • Begin a small braid at the part line right behind the fringe.
  • Continue braiding until you reach the back of the head and secure with pins

Recommended Products: Instant Shine Top Coat

Best Face Shape and Hair Type: Can be worn by anybody with any face shape or hair type.

#2 Boho Chic

Boho Chic

This bohemian style gives the appearance of an intricate design, but is really just a loose braid secured at the nape. Extremely quick and easy to create!

How to style:

  • Part clean dry hair deeply to one side and comb through.
  • Start at the part and begin an inside out French braid
  • Wrap the braid down and around the back of your head and secure into a low ponytail
  • Gather strands up and pin them loosely into the hair tie to finish off the look

Recommended Products: Quick Dry Hairspray will keep this style in place all day and night.

Best Face Shape and Hair Type: Any face shape will be flattered by this braided hairstyle. Thick hair of pretty much any texture can wear this look.

Tip: Pair with a bold eye or lip colour, making this laid-back hairstyle more modern.

#3 Romantic Style

Romantic

This beautiful up do is super simple to create. All you need to do is carry out a little teasing and place a few strategic pins in your hair, to get the perfect romantic style this summer.

How to Style:

  • Prep your hair strands with heat protectant or simply a light hold hairspray
  • Use a medium-sized curling iron to curl your entire head of hair. You can choose to keep the curls loose or tight depending on the look you want.
  • Tease the top crown for a bit for volume, then smooth over.
  • Wrap one side of your hair around the back as tightly as you can and use about five or so bobby pins to secure.

Recommended Products: Flexible Hold Hairspray is a great product to keep this chic style in place

Best Face Shape and Hair Type: All face shapes can wear this romantic hairstyle. Thin to thick amounts hair types ranging from straight to curly can create a version of this asymmetrical hairdo.

Tip: Try to hide your pins as much as possible. You can buy bobby pins and hairpins in an array of colours to match your hair shade. If you can still see them, throw in a chunky hair barrette or flower to add some detail and hide your pinwork.

#4 Elevated Elegance

Elevated

This simple style has a teased crown with super sleek lines, creating a dramatic look.

How to Style:

  • Style your hair as desired – straight, wavy or curly.
  • Tease the hair at the crown to create a thick cushion for some serious volume.
  • Gently smooth the teasing down with a brush or your fingers
  • Create a deep side part, pulling each side back tightly and pinning under your teased crown section.

Recommended Products: Try firm hold hairspray to keep your teasing and pinning in place

Best Face Shape and Hair Type: Round and heart shaped faces would suit this sleek hairstyle. Straight hair is also great for this style but can also be created in a wavy or curly version.

Tip: As a fifth step to this style, pull hair up into a ponytail for a flattering up do!

#5 Side Pony

Side ponytail

This charming ponytail is worn low on the side of the head and curled to make it more sophisticated.

How to Style:

  • Start off with clean, dry hair and use a brush to part the hair to the side and detangle
  • Gather the hair into a low ponytail on one side of the head (under one ear) and secure with a hair tie
  • Use a large curling iron to add texture to the strands
  • Wrap one piece of hair around the hair tie and secure with a bobby pin to hide the elastic
  • Spritz on some shine spray for a mirror-like finish

Recommended Products: Shine mist for all hair types

Best Face Shape and Hair Type: This will suit all face shapes and hair types. The more texture your hair has the more textured the style will be. The hair just needs to be long enough to pull into a low side ponytail.

Tip: If you have shorter hair, curl first while it’s down before you secure it into the ponytail.

#6 Fun Flip

Short curls

This bob hairstyle is easy to achieve with a large curling iron, the deep side part and light texture making this short hairstyle fun and flattering.

How to Style:

  • Start with clean, dry hair and part it deeply to one side.
  • Section the top half up and out of the way.
  • Use a large curling iron (about 1 ½ would be great) to flick hair out on the ends.
  • Drop hair down and curl some pieces with the iron while flicking out the ends of other pieces for an eclectic-like feel.
  • Finish off the look with your favourite styling spray.

Recommended Products:

Use texture spray to create a waxy mist, great for adding texture, with enough hold for all hair types.

Best Face Shape and Hair Type: Round faces look best with bobs. Fine to thick straighter are ideal for this flicked out hairstyle.

Tip: Blow your hair out first and attempt to get it as sleek and smooth as possible before going in with your iron. By starting with a frizz-free foundation you can make your life far easier!

#7 Short Side Braid

Half up short

This braided hairstyle is super easy to create and will make a big impact. Braiding one side takes this short style to the next level. A fringe will help to frame and soften the face.

How to style:

  • Begin with detangled, dry hair and part hair to the side.
  • On the shallow side of the part, begin a French braid starting at the top of the head and braiding down towards the ear.
  • When you reach behind and below the ear, secure with bobby pins.
  • Use a straightener or curling iron, whichever you feel more comfortable with, to bring your fringe forward and finish off the ends of your strands that were left out of the braid.

Recommended products: Run some light serum and hairspray through the hair to give it some shine and texture for your braid.

Best Face Shape and Hair Type: Any length of hair, face shape and hair type can achieve this hairstyle, looking great with a braid.

Tip: Pull remaining hair up into a ponytail or a low side ponytail for a great hairstyle to stay cool and beat the heat.

#8 Hippie Chic

Small braid

This modern braided hairstyle is sleek and simple. One little braid can add interest, texture and style to an otherwise boring hairstyle!

How to Style:

  • Straighten your entire head of hair
  • Part hair to the side slightly
  • Grab a small to medium-sized section of hair on the shallow side of the part
  • Split the section into three and begin braiding
  • Secure the braid with a tiny elastic band

Recommended Products: Mini elastic polybands are the perfect size for this style.

Best Face Shape and hair type: This simple hairstyle is perfect for all face shapes, hair types and textures.

Tip: Clear elastic bands are ideal as they match any hair type and are the best at remaining hidden.

#9 Side Twist

Twisted ponytail

This simple side ponytail or twisted bun is easy to create and adds elegance and sophistication to your hair. Sleek strands are pulled low to the side and swooped into a flattering hairstyle.

How to Style:

  • Begin with straightened hair and apply a heat protecting styling serum.
  • Curl the ends of your hair with a larger curling iron.
  • Part hair to the side and section out the top layers
  • Gather remaining hair into a low ponytail and secure with an elastic band.
  • Take the top layer section down and around the hair tie to hide it and secure with bobby pins.
  • Coil up the ponytail strand into a tousled bun and secure with more pins.

Recommended products: Moroccan Oil Treatments not only protect your hair from the heat but also nourish and repair split ends.

Best Face Shape and Hair Type: Square, round or heart shaped faces work best with this look. Any hair type or texture will be able to be styled in a side twist.

Tip: Use bobby pins and hair elastics that match your hair shade. This will help them blend in and not be seen.

#10 Faux Hawk

Short hair

This edgy pixie gives a futuristic vibe to your hair, proving that even short hair can have versatility, simply by changing your styling routine.

How to Style:

  • When hair is damp, apply a medium hold gel throughout the entire head of hair.
  • Take a fine-toothed comb and make two part lines both over the outside of the eyes. Direct the part lines back and comb the outside hair down and behind the ears.
  • Lift up the top section and mould it into a faux hawk
  • Use a strong hold hairspray to lock the look in place

Recommended Products: Styling gel is great for holding and won’t make your hair crunchy or flakey.

Best Face Shape and Hair Type: Heart or round shaped faces work well. Wavy to naturally straight hair work better for this look.

Tip: Keep your overall look in mind when styling your hair. If you are going for a more edgy hairstyle, than make sure your clothes and makeup follow the trend for a consistent look.

#11 Braided Beauty

Side braided

To achieve this braided look the hair is simply pulled into a low ponytail after being braided around the neck. A dramatic fringe can be left out for added interest, a bold asymmetrical hairstyle to try.

How to Style:

  • De-tangle hair and use a comb to part hair deeply to one side
  • Starting on the shallow end of the part, pull hair down to the ear and start a French braid.
  • Keep adding hair to the braid until you reach the opposite side of the neck.
  • Continue the low French braid until you reach the opposite side of the neck.
  • Gather all remaining hair (except the fringe) and secure into an elastic band.
  • Straighten your fringe and the strands in your ponytail for extra shine and an added edginess.

Best Face Shape and Hair Type: Round or square shaped faces work best with this style. Fine to thick hair with straight to wavy textures can achieve this look easily. Natural curls will add a different texture to the look.

Tip: If you just can’t seem to master braiding your own hair, twist and roll your hair strands instead. It can be a lot easier than a braiding.

#12 Swept Away

Half up

Whilst long hair can be beautiful it can also be too hot and heavy during the summer months. Show off your long locks and stay cool by pulling your hair half up. This simple, swept-back hairstyle looks chic and helps show off her facial features.

How to Style:

  • Use a curling tong to curl your entire head of hair or diffuse your natural curls.
  • Use a comb to tease the top of your head to add some volume
  • Use a brush to gently smooth and pull the top section of hair back into an elastic hair tie. Make sure you keep your hair parted in the centre as you do so.
  • Spray on some hair spray to lock your style in place.

Recommended Products: Try medium hold hairspray

Best Face Shape and Hair Type: Long oval faces should stay away from this elongating hairstyle. Try out this look if you have naturally curly hair or have good curling skills. This is a great look for thick hair.

Tip: If you have bangs, wear them forward or use bobby pins to keep them back and secured.

#13 Chiselled Elegance

Straight

Healthy, straight hair is as simple as it gets. A crisp side part and an elegant haircut can make this layered beauty a stunning, simple hairstyle option.

How to Style:

  • Part hair to the side and detangle
  • Grab your straighteners and slowly work through, section by section, to smooth each piece of hair.
  • Around the front of the face, bring the hair inward slightly to create a soft curve.

Recommended Products: Invest in a good set of straighteners to get your strands as sleek as possible.

Best Face Shape and Hair Type: Round, square and heart shaped faces would be flattered by this elongated and face framing hairstyle. Thick to thin hair that is naturally straight or slightly wavy is ideal.

Tip: Section hair up while you work to straighten hair underneath. Use a hair elastic to tie hair up or a large butterfly clip to secure your tresses as you work.

#14 Fun Ponytail

Fun ponytail

This adorable hairstyle may look complicated, but is very easy to achieve. A teased crown and a flicky side ponytail are elements that create a fun, feminine hairstyle.

How to style:

  • Tease the top crown of your head
  • Gently smooth the top section of hair back and secure with bobby pins
  • Pull the rest of the hair into a low, side ponytail and secure with an elastic
  • Pull out some front pieces and curl them for an added girly touch

Recommended Products: Protect your strands and add shine with styling serum.

Best Face Shape and Hair Type: All face shapes; textures and hair types would look great in this fun hairstyle.

Tip: A real or faux flower would look great with this style.

#15 Straight Up

Modern Bouffant

This teased hairstyle is a take on a modern bouffant. Straight strands are taken to the next level by adding volume and a slicked back sheen.

How to Style:

  • Straighten your entire head of hair so strands are nice and smooth
  • Spray your roots with a hairspray and begin to tease the roots on top of the head with a comb
  • Use a brush to gently sweep strands up and back away from the face.
  • Once your bouffant is in place – use a strong hold hairspray to lock in your look.

Recommended Products:

Hairspray is the perfect type of styling spray for this hairspray. Spray it on and keep your look in place all day.

Best Face Shape and Hair Type: This straight hairstyle may be too harsh for square shaped faces. The thicker your hair and the straighter it is naturally makes it more ideal for this style.

Tip: Don’t be afraid to tease your roots. You actually want to tease the hair and make it bigger than you are aiming for. Once you brush the hair back and smooth it out you will loose some of the volume.

#15 Flirty Bob

Bob

Asymmetrical hairstyles are very trending this year. A cute curly bob can be swept to one side and given a long blunt fringe. These unexpected elements make this hairstyle fun and flirty.

How to Style:

  • Curl your entire head of hair with a curling iron. Focus on the ends of the hair rather than roots to tips.
  • Use your fingers to break up the curls and scrunch them up. This will give them a looser and more tousled appearance.
  • Straighten your fringe forward
  • Smooth one side of hair back behind the ear and towards the opposite ear.
  • Secure with bobby pins or a decorative clip behind the opposite ear

Recommended products: Glossing mist is great to use before or after heat styling, helping to add shine to your strands.

Best Face Shape and Hair Type: Round and heart shaped faces look great with bobs and oval shaped faces look great with fringes. Fine to thick textured hair that is straight or wavy is the ideal hair type for this look.

Tip: Curl your fringe under slightly with the straighteners to keep them looking soft.

#17 Big Braid

Messy plait

This hairstyle has some volume! If you choose a more low-key version of this style, the side part and side braid still create a fun and simple hairstyle.

How to Style:

  • Part hair to the side and detangle hair
  • Use a comb to create a cushion of volume by teasing the roots at the crown. Make your hair as big or as small as you want.
  • Smooth strands with a brush gently to create a sleeker finish after your teasing.
  • Gather hair into a low ponytail on one side of your neck and begin braiding. A classic braid will do just fine.
  • Secure your braid with a small elastic and finish off your hairstyle with some hairspray to hold it in place.

Recommended Products: Satin finish hairspray is great for locking in your look without crunchiness or flaking.

Best Face Shape and Hair Type: This hairstyle is great for all face shapes and hair types.

Tip: Opt for braided pigtails for a more youthful and casual look.

#18 Diva Curls

Diva curls

This curly hairstyle is a great way to show off beautiful long strands. Show off your length but pull it back off your face for a touch of glamour!

How to Style:

  • Curl your entire head of hair with a curling iron or diffuse your natural curls.
  • Use a comb to tease the top of your head to add some volume
  • Use a brush to gently smooth and pull the top section of hair back into an elastic hair tie.
  • Take a strand of hair and wrap it around the hair tie to hide it
  • Use your curling iron to touch up any strands that need it after pulling hair back into the elastic
  • Spritz on some shine spray and you’re ready to go!

Recommended Products: Moroccan Oil Glimmer Shine spray is great for adding a mirror like finish to hair strands.

Best Face Shape and Hair Type: Long oval faces should stay away from this elongating hairstyle. Great for those who feel confident with a curling iron or are blessed with naturally curly hair.

Tip: Add a fringe to your look if you have a longer face to add balance.

#19 Edgy Fringe

Half up fringe

This sleek hairstyle is both simple and stylish. The edgy forward fringe helps frame the face and the subtle flick on the ends of the hair gives the hairstyle a fun feel. By pulling half of the hair up you can make the whole look lighter.

How to style:

  • Start with dry hair
  • Use a straightener to run through the bangs so they are nice and straight.
  • Use the iron again to smooth out the rest of the hair strands. Use the straightener to create a slight flick.
  • Use a comb to separate the fringe forward and the top half of hair back.
  • Secure hair with a barrette or clip.

Recommended Products: Anti-breakage thermal protection spray. Add necessary protein to weakened hair and keep hair safe from heat.

Best Face Shape and Hair Type: Long, oval or rectangular faces are great for this hairstyle because of the fringe, helping to add balance to longer faces. Fine to thick hair that ranges from a straight to wavy texture is the best.

Tip: Use a decorative barrette or clip to create a statement with this look.

#20 Side Ponytail

Side ponytail

A simple side ponytail is super easy to create and makes a fun, sophisticated look. Throw in a cute accessory for easy, dramatic impact.

How to Style:

  • Curl your entire head of hair.
  • Gather hair into a low ponytail on one side of your head and secure with an elastic band.
  • Gently place flowers into your ponytail.

Recommended products: Hair elastics

Best Face Shape and Hair Type: This style would look great on any face shape or hair type.

Tip: A thick ribbon or bow would make a great retro statement. Change up your look by adding a side ponytail or braid, amping up the volume by teasing or combing your hair in a different way.

There are tons of simple tips to freshen up your old boring hairstyle this summer! So you’ve got no excuse not to take your hairstyle to the next level! Just follow the basic steps for any of these simple hairstyles to change up your look and add a fresh twist to your look.
